Job Description

Job Summary
Join our team as a Speech Language Specialist, where you will diagnose and treat a wide range of speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in both children and adults. Utilize your expertise in the scientific study of human communication to evaluate and enhance speech and language skills, addressing educational, medical, social, and psychological factors. You will create, direct, and conduct rehabilitative treatment programs aimed at restoring communicative efficiency for individuals facing various communication challenges.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive initial evaluations and develop tailored plans of care, performing Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) assessments in collaboration with the Radiology department, clearly communicating findings.
  • Engage in quality assurance practices, ensuring proper use of modalities and maintaining productivity measures.
  • Deliver effective instruction through demonstrations and clear communication in both written and verbal forms.
  • Provide timely feedback and participate in discharge planning, coordinating closely with physicians.
  • Support patients in achieving their personal goals, optimizing performance and functional levels.
  • Collaborate with fellow Speech Therapy staff and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate the best possible outcomes.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with patients, caregivers, families, physicians, and students regarding all aspects of the Plan of Care.
  • Assist in promoting and marketing the Therapy clinic and facility.
  • Adhere to the ethical standards and obligations set forth by the American Speech and Hearing Association, ensuring excellence in patient management, consultation, education, research, and administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards of practice.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the field is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and present information clearly in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in basic arithmetic and the ability to interpret graphs and ratios.
  • Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to carry out instructions provided in various formats and address problems involving multiple concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills: Basic proficiency in computer usage.

Licenses and Certifications

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Current license as a Speech Language Pathologist or acceptable RPSGT/CRTT credential is mandatory.
  • Must be completing a clinical fellowship that can be verified on the State License website.
